Wohin die Reise dieses Projekts geht
Where this project is heading

This document describes the vision, structure and data model of Visual History — a living reference that grows with the project.
Visual History turns the chronicle of the Islamic empire — from the Rightly Guided Caliphs to the end of the Ottoman Empire (632–1924 CE) — into a continuous, visually guided journey through time. Instead of dry encyclopaedia articles: a vertical timeline you scroll through, from which every person, every quote, every battle opens up in depth with a single click — and leads back again into the wider context.
Clear typography, calm motion (scroll reveal), generous white space, no sensory overload — aesthetics at the highest level instead of a wall of text.
A single timeline connects everything. Every era, every person, every event has its fixed place on that axis and is reachable from there.
The data model was designed from the start so that new people, quotes, events and whole eras can be added without touching code — including visible placeholders for entries that are not yet complete.
Home page & life line. A cover acts as a real title page and leads into the journey. It is followed by a precisely centred line that grows as you scroll, starting at Muhammad ﷺ as the single origin node and running through the four phases of the Khilafah — with expandable dynasty branches — down to Al-Mahdi and the return of Isa. Each name sits in a circular medallion; a node only becomes visible once the line reaches its position.
Profile, era and essay pages. A centred, editorial reading surface: name (German and Arabic), a short role, the year with the Gregorian and Hijri calendars side by side plus a „X years ago" figure. The main text is not dumped on you at once — first the headings of the entry's own text and of every linked essay appear in a shared „To read" list; the entry's own text expands inline on click.
Honesty before completeness. Where a person or dynasty does not yet have its own file, the page openly shows an editorial placeholder — rather than pulling substitute content from the wrong source. Nothing is presented as finished when it is not.
Four content collections, each its own folder under info wiki/, each validated against a schema. A broken link fails the build with a clear message instead of silently showing an empty list.
Linking runs everywhere through an editorial id field that must match exactly across all files. Year figures are researched historical values, not converted by formula.
The 17 recorded rulers (Rashidun and Umayyads) so far show only name, role and year; the Abbasids and Ottomans exist as marked placeholders. This page and its entries are sample texts — the editorial work is underway.
